Fashionable Friday – Halloween Costumes From Your Closet

By Assistant Editor Shayna Spiker

It’s that time of year again, ladies. The one time it’s considered normal to dress wacky and experiment with makeup and fashion…it’s Halloween! If you are working on a budget, or have to come up with a last-minute costume, have no fear. You can have a glamorous, unique, and awesome costume straight from your closet! Here are some ideas to get you started:

Jackie Onassis: Grab a pair of oversized sunglasses, a pearl necklace, white pencil skirt and a plain black t-shirt. Top it off with a white cardigan and there you go, Mrs. Kennedy!

A Jockey: Find an argyle sweater, white pants or jeans, and knee-high boots. If you can, put your hair up in a tight bun and keep your makeup minimal.

Joan Harris from Mad Men: Grab a pussybow top like this one (preferably not a sheer one) and a high-waisted pencil skirt. If you don’t have a high-waisted skirt, you can try to pull your regular pencil skirt up as high as it will go and secure it with a belt or scarf. If you don’t own a pussybow top, you can wear a plain t-shirt and tie a scarf around your neck. Add a pair of solid colored pumps and earrings to finish it off.

Morton Salt Girl: If you have a yellow dress or raincoat, this is perfect for you! Just add socks, a pair of maryjanes, and a black umbrella. Morton’s Salt container optional.

Ke$ha: If you want to go really crazy with your costume, go as pop star Ke$ha for Halloween. Make sure you don’t wash your hair for 3 or 4 days (or just use spray wax to make your hair chunky and piecy like this one from KMS), apply lots of eye makeup. Make sure you include lots of glitter! Then throw on a pair of fishnets, short shorts, and a sequined tank top.

I hope these ideas get your costume creativity revved up. Whatever your Halloween plans are, just remember to have fun!
