The Baltimore-Washington Corridor is one of the top five areas in the US for minority women owned businesses and, as noted above, that is a major driver for the growth of women-owned businesses in this region. According to current Census data, Maryland has the highest percentage of women-owned businesses in the U.S. As of 2007, nearly a third of all Maryland businesses were owned by women. In Baltimore, almost 37% of businesses were owned by women as of that time. The national average was about 29%.   (Source: Baltimore Business Journal, August 2011, and Kauffman Foundation data.)

WEB is providing solutions every day that energize aspiring entrepreneurs to start up businesses and revitalize small businesses that need strategies to sustain and grow in these challenging times. Through its well-sequenced training programs, WEB empowers entrepreneurs to identify a realistic business idea; to research all steps in the start-up process, including sources of capital; to develop a business plan; and to launch their businesses within a structured time frame. WEB supports its graduates through the initial phases of business ownership. The program year includes an annual Women in Business Conference and additional workshops and special events.
