We want to welcome our new Affiliate, Ella Pritsker, Owner of the Maryland Academy of Couture Arts (MACA)! Below, you will find information on MACA’s upcoming fall class schedule.

Young Couturier

This course is designed for young students (9 to 12 year old) to develop both a love and understanding of sewing by learning the elements of couture hand sewing through the fashioning of stylish projects.

August 15-19 (Mini Summer Camp) 10:00 am – 11:30 am

Thursdays:  September 8 – October 6, 2011 (Weekly) 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Saturdays:   October 8, 22, November 5, 2011 (Individual Sessions) 3:00 pm – 5:30 pm

Friday: October 14, 2011 (Individual sessions) 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Beginner Couturier 1

This course is specifically tailored for novice sewers who are interested in learning the art of couture in the fine European tradition. The project in this class is a fully lined skirt. Students have a choice of three styles.

Thursdays:  October 13 – November 17, 2011           5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Beginner Couturier 2

After mastering Beginner Couturier 1, the next course builds on those skills and introduces new techniques of the art of couture. In this class students learn to make an unlined jacket and learn new finishing techniques.

Pattern Making and Pattern Design

Learn to make beautiful custom clothing the way top European designers do, using generations-old techniques and processes to create the designs of your dreams. It this 28 week program students learn the entire process of designing and creating their own original line of clothing consisting of several garments (3-5):  designing a pattern, construction and proper fit and finishing touches.

Advanced and Master Couturier
Students will learn many fine finishing techniques that are used by couture houses today and the ones that have been used in the past in Advanced Couturier. Ready for the next challenge…Master Couturier will offer very intricate techniques to be applied as you create a work of art.

These new classes will be offered in the Winter/Spring session.

Fashion Draping Basics and Advanced Fashion Draping Workshops
Fashion Draping Basics is intended for the novice student or the professional as an introduction to the basics of transforming cloth into a three-dimensional pattern for clothing. The advanced level, hands-on workshop will focus on developing a three-dimensional pattern of original design for ladies evening wear.

Creating Inspiration Sketches with Aleona Isakova
