NKF-MD To Hold Rappel for Kidney Health Event This Saturday!

The National Kidney Foundation of Maryland (NKF-MD) will take fundraising to new heights with its third annual Rappel for Kidney Health signature event occurring throughout the day, Saturday, June 9, at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront (700 Aliceanna St.).

“Rappel for Kidney Health will give people the chance to make an impact on kidney disease in an extraordinary way,” said Kelly Meltzer, director of special events for the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland. “We are very excited to bring the event to the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront, a world-class hotel with spectacular views and a terrific location in Harbor East.”

As the exclusive rappel event occurring annually in the Baltimore metropolitan area, Rappel for Kidney Health invites people of all ages to scale the 32-story hotel – the tallest height to date of a Rappel for Kidney Health building!

Adventure seekers, “edgers” with connections to kidney disease, and even transplant donors and recipients will participate. Media personalities and other select VIPs will have the first chance to go down the building during a preview VIP/Media rappel event June 8.

Participants must raise $1,000, and will receive a fundraising web page, receive a rappelling time slot, undergo a training session the day of the event and be photographed while in action.

New this year is the opportunity to form teams. “Each member still needs to raise a minimum of $1,000, but participating on a team is a great way to be part of a fundraising competition, especially between companies in the same industry,” Meltzer added, noting that the top five teams, as well as the top five individuals that raise the most money, will be featured on the Rappel for Kidney Health website home page.

Rappel for Kidney Health is organized by Over the Edge, the only company in North America with the proven experience, safety record and insurance to provide rappelling services to the non-profit sector.

To register for Rappel for Kidney Health, support a participant, receive information about corporate sponsorship or see videos of last year’s event, visit www.kidneymd.org or call 410.494.8545.

Funds raised through Rappel for Kidney Health will directly support NKF-MD’s patient services, education and research efforts. The first two Rappel for Kidney Health events drew 135 participants and raised over $180,000.

Serving central and western Maryland, the Delmarva Peninsula and portions of West Virginia, NKF-MD is the area’s only voluntary health agency dedicated to the prevention, treatment and cure of kidney and urinary tract diseases.
