OUTDOOR ROOMS ON A BUDGET

Creating an outdoor room in your home can be done inexpensively and will expand your living spaces, giving you more room to relax and entertain.  Common outdoor rooms refer to spaces like a porch, patio or gazebo…any space that has a good deal of exposure to sunlight and fresh air.

Transform a Porch

For example, a front or side porch can be easily transformed from just space to an inviting extra room.  The way the space is decorated should reflect the style of your home.  If your house is contemporary and you want to make a visual statement,  use modern outdoor seating and spice it up with interesting containers filled with plants.  Include a small water feature to promote relaxation and harmony.
There is a wealth of wonderful indoor/outdoor fabrics in bold, modern designs that can be utilized to cover seat cushions and pillows…add a couple of small side tables and you’ve created a “new room”.

If your home is more transitional or traditional think about using old wicker pieces and soft, subtle colors like whitewashed grey, pale blue, soft pinks.  Add interesting accent pieces like a pair of old silver or silver plate candlesticks and you’ve made a statement  that is reflective of your own personal style.  Hanging baskets filled with ferns will add dimension and greenery.
