SMART CEO Baltimore BRAVA Awards – Recap

Monyka “M” Berrocosa & Janet Amirault

The SMART CEO Brava! Awards celebrate women business leaders who combine their irrepressible entrepreneurial spirit with a passion for giving back to the community. These female CEOs have become exemplary leaders in their companies and the community at large by encouraging local philanthropy, mentoring fellow CEOs and setting their companies on the path to tremendous growth.

Louise Phipps Senft, Suzanne Thompson, Katrina Wilson & Susan Aplin

MyCity4Her’s Founder & CCO Monyka Berrocosa won the award in 2008, ever since she’s been involved to some degree with the event, whether as a media partner, or on the prestigious selection committee. She had this to say about 2012’s winners “They make us earlier winners look REALLY good, seriously the criteria and quality of women just keeps getting better and better – KUDOS to all the amazing winners!”

The event was at the incredibly festooned Visionary Arts Museum, the only of its kind to celebrate “Art Brut” and recognize the self-taught artist. As usual the room was packed with Baltimore’s most vibrant and successful business women – several of whom had won in previous years – including Sheela Murthy (The Murthy Law Firm), Lynne Brick (Brick Bodies), Barb Clapp (Clapp Communications), Mary Ann Scully (Howard Bank), Jane Frankel Sims (The Law Offices of Jane Frankel Sims), Kathleen Dorsey (Global Results), Paula Singer (The Singer Group) and many more.

Software Consortium CEO & President Janet Amirault gave an inspiring toast clutching her original 1972 copy of Ms. Magazine – the one that declared it was the “year of the woman”. Janet shared this thought about the evening ” “It was an honor to toast a group of leaders who had accomplished so much, and to be able to reflect together how far women and men have come since the !979 Decade of Women Ms. Magazine.  We have made business, the public sector and non-profits and ultimately, America stronger by sharing our gifts of leadership and collaboration.  I am proud to be a woman leader today and in such great company!”
