The House of Ruth is one of MyCity4Her’s favorite charitable causes and with good reason, they do great work. On September 12, 2012, the Baltimore Chapter of the Women Presidents Organization (WPO) led by the dynamic Betty Hines (an accomplished speaker, entrepreneur and business woman) hosted the first annual Golf & Grapes event to support the House of Ruth Maryland.
About 40 golfers attended the event held at Turf Valley Resort, and featured a one hour golf clinic, followed by 9 holes with a shotgun start and concluded with a networking reception. MyCity4Her’s CCO & Founder Monyka Berrocosa rallied a team of 13 golfers to support the event! A good deed never goes unpunished and her foursome actually won the tournament thanks to the efforts of team members including – Colleen Pleasant Kline (Partner, Miles & Stockbridge, P.C), Janet Amirault (CEO Of Software Consortium) and Stephen Ross (Wealth Advisory with Merrill Lynch.)
Executive Director Sandi Timmins of the House of Ruth seemed overwhelmed at the effort and commented
“What a great first time around, we are encouraged for next year and hope we’ve gained a team of supporters for a bigger and better event!”. Women in business definitely benefit from some mentorship when it comes to getting more familiar with the golf course and the opportunities to do business that lurk there. MyCity4Her’s Giving Spirits Foundation asked attendees and wannabe golf enthusiasts to save the date for their own “Girl Get your Golf Game On!” event – scheduled for end of April 2013. In past years, the event has drawn well over 100 women and raised thousands for charity, next year will be no exception. Giving Spirits Foundation Chair Monyka Berrocosa shared this about women and golfing for business “When we did Girl Get your Golf Game On the first time in 2007 – a type of event of such kind was unheard of. We’re thrilled to have been part of the trend setters who understand, golf – is a lot like business – to do well, you need to be coached, play with better players and PRACTICE. This is why I’ve always been a proponent of that kind of event.”
At the Golf and Grapes event other prominent business people attending included Sharon Pinder, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Women and Minority Owned Business (Baltimore City), Anita Sheckells, (CPA & Shareholder Katz Abosch), Hammond James Dugan IV (Pierre C. Dugan & Nephew), Tracy Steedman (Associate Niles Barton & Wilmer LLP), Hazel Boone (Someday Vacations), Richard Yoskey (Wells Fargo), Kelly Harris (Barcodes Unlimited), Deborah Stallings (CEO HR Anew), Janon Veach ( Director of Business Development, Katz Abosch), Anne Tisdale (Anne Tisdale Direct) , Pam Gilmour (Financial Fitness) and many more.
