Starting an Etsy Business For Dummies offers expert advice for all artists and entrepreneurs looking to build an online craft business from scratch. The book has a lot of good insight into maximizing the popular Etsy platform to grow your business. Readers get invaluable information on setting up an online shop, writing compelling item descriptions, photographing their work, engaging the Etsy community, understanding fees, and finding their muse when it takes a holiday. If DIY is your domain, the book gives you the skills, knowledge, and know-how to create a successful business that pays.
I found that this book has some really great advice, and it presents it in a way that the average woman and small business owner/artist – can execute them. Many women in business are artists, or crafts people who struggle with growing their business because what they do is so not traditionally business oriented, and this book addresses anyone trying to be successful on the Etsy platform very democratically in easy to understand ways that are not condescending and very educational. Women business owners of all shapes and sizes deserve to be successful and this book – dedicated to helping artists and craftspeople leverage the Etsy platform helps them do so rather eloquently. After reading it – it made me sad I am not more talented an artist as I’d love to try my hand at an Etsy business.
Some of my favorite takeaways included:
Easy ways to creat an Eye-Catching storefront. I loved how the book walked you through what seems basic – but may not be intuitive so you can truly capitalize on the great aspects the Etsy platform has to offer such as:
Custom Banners
Creating catch shop titles and announcements
Organizing your online store into mindful and relevant sections
The best practices regarding sharing personal info on your Etsy profile in a way to help you grow your business
And the section
“Wrap it up: Closing the Deal” has some takeaways ALL business owners could benefit from – whether they are running an Etsy shop or not!
Tips such as the importance of having a personal contact with your customer even though the online interface executes the transaction for you are truly useful.
