Fashionable Friday: Tax Free Shopping Week

By Assistant Editor Shayna Spiker

Sunday begins Maryland’s tax-free shopping week. Who doesn’t love tax-free shopping? I mean, that’s why the Chritiana and King of Prussia malls are so heavenly! Tax-free week will boost retailers’ revenue and help keep some back-to-school and fall shopping change in many people’s wallets. The only stinker for this year’s tax-free shopping is that, unlike DC’s tax-free shopping last week, it won’t include school supplies (bummer!).

So where can you shop for cute, chic, sophisticated, and fashionable items in the Baltimore area?

BraLaLa in Maple Lawn has everything you need to feel your most gorgeous and fashionable UNDER your fabulous fashion finds. Whether it’s bras, sleepwear, or specialty items like sports, maternity or post-mastectomy lingerie – they have you covered! They are relentless and determined to help you find your perfect fit – whatever you needs, size, or budget. Great fashion starts with a solid foundation – and a girl’s gotta get make the most of what she has, if you know what I mean? You can also check them out and like them on Facebook by clicking here.

Couture Closet in Federal Hill is designer diva heaven. They carry fashion from contemporary designers such as Alexander McQueen, Carolina Herrera, Stella McCartney and more. Couture items average a discount of 85% – does anyone hear the angels singing in the background, or is that just me?

Double Dutch Boutique in Hampden has always been a favorite of mine. They are my go-to for cute, sometimes kitschy fashion and accessories. Perfect for an “I Hate Men” shopping spree (trust me)!

Also in Hampden is K Staton Boutique, almost one-of-a-kind shop for Baltimore. It is an independently owned plus size shop featuring chic and fabulous clothing and accessories. Don’t look for a store-front sign just yet, though – the shop is currently in the back of Lynne’s Gifts on 36th street. Rumor has it the shop is expanding soon…

Lori K is a great stop to make while you consider updating your wardrobe for fall, this lovely shop has everything you need to feel stylish and perfectly dressed, whatever the occasion.
From in demand James Jeans (as favored by Princess Katherine – William’s new bride) to evening wear by designer Gail Garrison. The shop is owned by Lori Kilberg, who dressed many of Baltimore’s most fashionable at Nordstrom’s Personal Touch department before taking the plunge and launching this most stylish location of her own.  Take a moment to like their page on Facebook by clicking here.

If you’re looking for kitschy t-shirts, try Squidfire in Fells Point. My favorites are the vegetable shirt and the fruit shirt. It’s produce with adorable faces, I mean…come on!

If you want to shop on more of a budget, try consignment shopping! Two of my favorite shops are La Chic Boutique and Newbury & Smith, both of which are in Mount Washington.

There’s shopping outside of the city, too. Check out Fresh! on the corner of Greenspring Valley and Falls Road. If you want sophisticated style, Fresh! is the place to go.

I love shoes – in case you hadn’t noticed – so naturally, I love Poppy and Stella in Fells Point. Everything they carry is fresh and cute and hip and there’s nothing not to love about the store!

Enjoy your week of tax-free shopping, wherever you end up spending your time and money. Just try not to overdo it with all the shopping, okay? We don’t want you to be worn out before summer is over.
