Did you ever imagine yourself achieving what you have?

Yes. I indicated on my resume upon graduating from college that my goal was to be the owner of my own business. It is surely true that you will achieve what you believe. Of course, the hard work and diligence goes hand in hand with the passion and belief. I have much more to achieve and I will.

What in hindsight would you say you underestimated about your industry or
business and why?

I underestimated somewhat the amount of cash flow necessary for start up. I planned well financially; however, I could have done a better job. I realize that it’s tough actually determining potential salary expenses needed in order to properly grow the business. My business could be further along if cash was more readily available. Presently, banks don’t tend to lend to businesses less than 3 years old.

I expected the long hours and long days. I previously worked in retail, thus I’m familiar with working hard and working long days. I expected hiring and retention challenges even in the midst of the current economic state of our country. We have been afforded the opportunity to obtain great caregivers in this economy.

What is the best business related advice you have ever been given?

The best business related advice I’ve ever been given is do something that you’re passionate about. I am passionate about caring for others, assisting others… clients who need assistance in their homes, caregivers needing an extra or primary income source, referral sources needing a solution to their case management challenges, and the community at large needing companionship and personal care resources.

What do you love most about what you do and why?

I love helping others… clients, caregivers, referral sources, the community at large.

What if you knew then what you know now –would you do differently and why?

If I had to do it all over again, I would venture into the same industry – in-home non-medical care. I take pride in helping others. We help seniors thrive in their homes and we assist those who are recuperating from an illness or surgery.

When you’re not working how do you like to spend your time?

When I’m not working, I love spending the time with my son and husband. I like making our home more of a home; I decorate and make seasonal changes to our home. I love gardening. I like planning social gatherings for our large extended families.

How do you define success?

Success is achieving one’s goals and being happy with self and accomplishments. Success is great health and family ties. Success is sharing and helping others.

If you had to share one final thought with our audience of thousands of women in business – what would it be?

Be happy at whatever you choose to do with your life. Realize your goals. Create relationships, develop relationships. Love and be loved. Have a spiritual foundation. It’s nice to make a living – to make money, however, don’t lose sight of what really makes a difference ‘cause… “Success is nothing without having someone you love to share it with.”
